The ongoing search for the best makeup for acne prone skin
The more you read about the potential cause of skin cell overproduction and clogged pore formation, the more complex it becomes. We have the hormone system to look at, sebum overproduction, the skin’s inflammatory response, systemic vitamin and mineral deficiency, bacteria over-proliferation, or a combination thereof…the possibilites are endless and the list goes on and on.
It's no secret I love mineral makeup. I like that it's a more natural skin care choice, and that it doesn't irritate my tends-to-be-sensitive skin.
Apparently, I'm not alone because mineral makeup is hot right now. Nearly every makeup brand has a mineral version, and all come with promises of many skin-healthy benefits.
...Don't forget to take your acne medications with you as you head off to school, and make sure you have a plan to continue getting your prescriptions while your away from home. If stress does a number on your skin, take some time for stress-relieving activities.
Drumroll: Here’s the new Scars Page. It should have improved information and better usability. Please check it out and let me know what you think of it. If you find mistakes, I’d love to know what you found as well.
I can't believe that the myth about using toothpaste as a spot treatment for pimples is still being promoted.
I just read this recommendation in an article on Ezine Articles:
The best way to treat your acne with toothpaste is to only use it on your spots. It does not replace a acne cleanser.
- Dab toothpaste on inflamed area before bed
- Cover with band aid
- Uncover in morning
It sounds so crazy but it works.
We've all had that particularly annoying pimple that we wish we could quickly zap away. Spot treatments are over-the-counter acne products that help you do just that.
Spot treatments differ from other acne treatments because they are meant to be used only on existing blemishes.
The ultimate goal for the future of humanity, as we all know, is to become sustainable. The cosmetics industry is no exception. I’m happy to report that the United States EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) lists Principles of Green Chemistry on their web site for the entire industry to aspire to. These principles were first published in the book Green Chemistry: Theory and Practice, in 1998.
I'll give Proactiv credit, they've done a great job getting big celebrities to endorse their product, and this may be why Proactiv is so popular. But Proactiv isn't the only 3-step acne treatment option available.
If you stop by your local drugstore you'll find there are many complete acne skin care systems on the market. These won't come with a free Justin Bieber poster, though, (which is either a good thing or bad, depending on your point of view.)
Every time I see ads for cures for acne that claim that your acne will disappear overnight I just laugh.
Here's an article I just wrote on vitamins for acne. I read up on it and give you my honest opinion.

Now, go get yourself a healthy snack of fresh fruit and read.

Your tween is starting to develop blackheads and mild pimples, so you head out to the drug store and buy him an acne cleanser. And he is actually using it!
Everything is going great until your tween starts to complain about dry skin. That's when you notice the redness and irritation.
Tween skin is still young and sensitive, so many of the acne cleansers available can irritate their skin. What's a parent to do?
If OTC acne products are drying out your tween's skin, try this:
- Try a salicylic acid cleanser, rather than benzoyl peroxide. Salicylic acid can be less drying to tween skin than benzoyl peroxide.
- Have your tween use an acne cleanser only at night, and a non-medicated cleanser in the morning.
- Don't forget the moisturizer! The moisturizer you use isn't the best choice for your tween. Instead, get him a non-medicated, oil-free and noncomedogenic brand. Hypo-allergenic and fragrance free is a plus. (I personally love Purpose, but shop around to find one that suits your tween. She's more likely to use it if she likes it.)
- If your tween's skin is excessively irritated, stop using the product. Give your doctor a call if the reaction seems severe, or your child's skin isn't improving even after discontinuing use.

Having a couple 'tweens' who are almost teens, I know all about this. Great tips to read.
